ETFE Membrane Installation & Sealing Process

    : 2023/03/25 : admin : 164time

During Installation: Control Key Sealing Processes During installation, standard operations shall be strictly followed for three core sealing points: joint welding, edge fixing and air‑cushion interfaces.

Membrane Joints: Precision Welding Clean dust and oil stains on membrane joints before welding to keep surfaces dry and prevent impurities from impairing welding tightness. For hot‑air welding guns, strictly control temperature (200‑250℃) and welding speed (10‑15 cm/min). Ensure weld width is no less than 5 mm with no bubbles or cold solder joints. Conduct hand‑pull test after welding; qualified welds shall resist cracking. For multi‑layer membrane structures, adopt double‑layer welding: add one auxiliary weld on each side of the main weld to achieve double sealing.

Edge Fixing: Compression Sealing When inserting ETFE membrane edges into clamping grooves, ensure full contact with sealing strips without wrinkles or displacement. Fasten with stainless‑steel press strips at intervals no more than 30 cm. Tighten bolts with even torque to avoid loose compression or membrane damage from over‑tightening. Apply dedicated sealant continuously along gaps between membrane and grooves. Sealant thickness shall be ≥2 mm, covering at least 5 mm on each side of joints for full gap filling with smooth, bubble‑free surface.

Air‑Cushion Structure: Interface Sealing Use ETFE‑specific fittings for inflation ports and valves of air cushions. Wrap interfaces with 2‑3 layers of sealing tape and tighten nuts to eliminate air leakage. For seams between air cushions, apply overlay‑membrane welding: cover joints with an ETFE patch of minimum 10 cm width, then weld the patch to both adjacent air‑cushion membranes to form reinforced sealing.
